Quirky Exercise: Movie Magic
Tools needed: Multiple movie tickets.
Buy a movie ticket for everyone on your team (at least four people needed). However, break up your team so there are no more than 3 or 4 people for any one movie (Our staff of 12 bought 12 tickets for 6 different movies, two people to one movie (We’ve also done 12 tickets for 4 different movies, three people to a movie so we don’t have to worry about one male pairing with one female). Pick movies that all have start times close to one another. Put all movie tickets in a hat and have your team draw a ticket. They must go see a movie with the person or persons who draw for the same movie.
Objective: At the end of the movies, gather over a meal or a coffee and ask your team to talk about the movies they saw and the experience they had with the other person. This is a great way to surface those fun moments like “I can’t believe you cried at that!” Or, “I thought you were so insensitive when you laughed at that.” This activity surfaces a lot of those little quirks we all have that come out in fun social situations from the reactions you get when people draw a ticket to the kibitzing afterwards.
