Quirky Exercise: Office Pet

Tools needed: Well . . .

Buy an office pet. A pet that reflects your own quirkiness. Invite the team to help name him.

This year we bought a hedgehog for the office. They aren’t legal in every state but they are in Michigan! We asked everyone on the team to suggest names for him. We eventually named him “Merton” after the late Trappist monk and mystic, Thomas Merton. We also gave him a title, “The Hedgehog of Protection.”

Objective: Including everyone in the naming process surfaces quirks, personalities, and tastes. An office pet that everyone takes care of is also a subtle reminder that we need to be on the same page. Office pets are like a team mascot.
